Lytec Data Repair & Maintenance

How to Prevent Common Lytec Data File Errors

Maintaining and repairing Lytec data is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of your medical practice’s billing and scheduling systems. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you understand and implement best practices for Lytec data repair and maintenance.

Common Lytec Data Issues
  • Corrupted Data Files: Caused by unexpected shutdowns, hardware failures, or software glitches.
  • Index Fragmentation: Leads to slower query performance and system lag.
  • Data Integrity Errors: Result from improper system shutdowns or software bugs.
  • Upgrade Failures: Occur when transitioning between different Lytec versions without proper preparation.
Lytec Data Maintenance

Lytec has a data maintenance function called “Rebuild Data Files”. This should be run after a power outage/surge, or computer hardware failure. This can correct issues like incorrect patient balances, or corrupted data.

To run a rebuild, first have all other users (besides the one initiating the Rebuild) logout of the Lytec database to be rebuilt.

1. Go to Tools, then Rebuild Data Files.

2. It is recommended to click Select All to check all functions/tables.

3. Click OK to proceed.

4. Click Yes on the following screen:

5. Leave the “Backup Database” option selected and click Next.

6. Enter a path and filename for the backup. In the example below, “C:\Lytec Backups\” is the path, and “Example.bak” is the filename. Your path may vary, as you can backup to the computer locally, or to a connected external drive. The file name should reflect the practice being backed up and rebuilt. A good backup filename will make it very clear what is contained within the backup. Recommended backfile name format is “Practice name (Lytec) date.bak”. Replace “Practice name” with your actual practice/database name, and “Date” with a date in “MM-DD-YYYY” or “YYYY-MM-DD” format.

7. Click Next to continue.

8. You may leave the Password field blank, but if you do populate it, be sure to make note of the password as it cannot be recovered if lost.

9. If you are backing up to an existing file, you may want to use the “Replace all previous Backup Information” option. If you’re creating a new backup file, it is ok to leave the “Append to existing Backup Information” option selected.

10. Click Next to continue.

11. You may leave the Name, Description, and Password fields blank. Again, if you choose to specify a Password, be sure to make note of the password as it cannot be recovered if lost.

12. Click Next to continue.

13. Click Finish, then wait for the “Database backup complete” message.

14. Click OK, then wait for the Rebuild to complete.

15. When the process completes, the “Rebuild Log File” window will appear.

16. Click OK.
